A sophisticated stormwater detention system is incorporated into the properties of the Recreation Department. There are 21 lakes at the Village Links, one lake at Lambert Lake Nature Preserve and two lakes at Panfish Park. These lakes and the areas surrounding them are designed to hold stormwater during major rain falls. All of the lakes are connected by underground stormwater pipes. During a major storm, the system is designed to hold stormwater and flood the Recreation properties. The stormwater is released downstream at a safe rate before any lasting damage is done to the golf course or other parks. This stormwater system detains approximately 30 percent of the stormwater that falls in Glen Ellyn and is the primary reason that the Village developed and operates these properties. The stormwater detention system is maintained and operated with golf course user fees.
