The Village of Glen Ellyn’s Public Works Department and Equipment Service Division are responsible for automotive repairs and maintenance of all Village department fleet except Recreation.

The Village of Glen Ellyn owns approximately 85 vehicles. The Equipment Service Division makes a priority of providing a more efficient fleet of equipment and vehicles that will reduce air pollution and decrease dependence on foreign oil by utilizing renewable fuel sources. The entire fleet of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment runs on an ultra low sulfur blend of bio-diesel, which is made from soybean oil.

The Equipment Service Division is staffed by three full-time Automotive Service Excellence Master Technicians and one part-time Date Entry Operator. This division has received the top honor of “Blue Seal of Excellence” from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. Outfitting of all Village emergency service vehicles is coordinated and completed by the Equipment Services Division. This includes installation of all of the necessary equipment, technology and markings. Another major task of the Division is the routine, on-going maintenance and preventative maintenance of the Village’s fleet and other major equipment. By performing this work in-house, the Village ensures preventative maintenance stays on schedule and reduces maintenance costs.
