The Village of Glen Ellyn’s Police Department offers residents a variety of programs and services throughout the year.  More information can also be obtained by contacting the Police Department at 630-469-1187.
 
Coffee with the Cops

In December 2007, the Glen Ellyn Police Department began a new public outreach initiative dubbed Coffee with the Cops.  On the first Saturday morning of each month, the Chief of Police and/or the Deputy Chief(s) of Police play host to interested residents.  Coffee with the Cops provides residents with the opportunity to interact with law enforcement personnel in a non-enforcement environment.  Participants can talk about neighborhood issues such as traffic or parking; seek information on various police programs; and learn about specific police duties and responsibilities, such as investigations, traffic accident reconstructions and evidence collections. 

 
BASSET

In April 2008, the Glen Ellyn Village Board passed an ordinance amending the Glen Ellyn Liquor Code to require alcohol awareness training for those supervising the sale of alcohol and those selling and serving alcoholic beverages.  This training, known as the Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Education and Training, or BASSET, provides alcohol sellers and servers training regarding alcohol related laws and issues.  The BASSET program also provides alcohol sellers and servers with additional knowledge on alcohol and its abuse, and helps to ensure that Glen Ellyn and surrounding communities are a safe place in which to live.

The goals and objectives of the BASSET program are:
  1. Train and educate sellers and servers to engage in responsible alcohol service.
  2. Reduce and/or prevent driving under the influence occurrences and alcohol-related fatalities.
  3. Reduce and/or stop underage sales and underage drinking.
  4. Create safer communities and establishments where alcohol is served. 
  5. Educate owners, managers and staff regarding state and local laws related to alcohol service. 

If you are interested in registering for the BASSET program, please fill out the electronic form below and submit.  The program will be held in the Glen Ellyn Civic Center, located at 535 Duane Street.  Classes must have a minimum of 5 and maximum of 25 participants and there is a $20.00 per person fee for attending the seminar.  For any additional questions regarding BASSET, please contact the Police Department at 630-469-1187.

The Village of Glen Ellyn and the Police Department welcome the opportunity to provide interested individuals a tour of the Glen Ellyn Civic Center, located at 535 Duane Street, in downtown Glen Ellyn.   If you would like a tour of the Glen Ellyn Police Department’s facilities, please contact the Police Department at 630-469-1187.

 
Citizen's Police Academy
The Glen Ellyn Police Department is proud to offer residents the Citizen’s Police Academy.  The Citizen’s Police Academy is an eight-week program that introduces participants to the roles and operations of the Police Department through classroom discussions, field trips and “hands on” experiences.  The academy gives citizens a unique look inside their local police department.

The goal of the academy is to bring the community and the Police Department together as a team and enhance understanding of how the Glen Ellyn Police Department and its Police Officers function.  Participants will learn about a variety of topics, including gangs, drugs, personal protection and identity theft.  There is no charge to enroll in the Citizen’s Police Academy, however you must be at least 18 years of age and submit to a background investigation. Applicants will be disqualified from attending if they have been convicted of any violent crime or any crime that by its nature is deemed counterproductive to the spirit and goals of the Citizen’s Police Academy. Participants must not have any outstanding warrants.  While the Citizen’s Police Academy is open to everyone, residents of the Village of Glen Ellyn and people who work in Glen Ellyn will be given first priority for participation.

Senior Citizen's Police Academy
The Glen Ellyn Police Department is proud to offer residents the Senior Citizen’s Police Academy.  The goal of the academy is to bring the senior citizen community and the Police Department together and enhance better understanding of how the Glen Ellyn Police Department and its Police Officers function.  The participant will also learn about a variety of topics such as personal protection for home, property and person, crime scene investigation, identity theft and senior specific topics.

Additional information about the Senior Citizen’s Police Academy can be obtained by contacting Officer Tom Staples at 630-469-1187.  Applications for the academy can be picked up at the front desk at the Glen Ellyn Police Department or can be downloaded from the link below and completed.  The completed application can be dropped off or mailed to the Glen Ellyn Police Department at 535 Duane Street, Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137. 
Peddler's Permit
The Village of Glen Ellyn requires individuals and businesses to be licensed and registered with the Village in order to sell wares door to door.  If you or your business wishes to sell wares door to door, please complete the Peddler's Permit below and return it to the Police Department at 535 Duane Street.  For more information regarding peddler's permits and the Village's peddling regulations, please see the Village Code section below or contact the Police Department at 630-469-1187.
