New Residential Solid Waste Rates In Effect August 1, 2013
In July 2013, the Village Board approved updated rates for the weekly residential solid waste program. Rates were updated as part of the Village's 5-year contract with Republic Services, which includes an annual adjustment based on the Chicago area consurmer price index (1.5%). Additionally, the adjusted rates include a reduced monthly recycling rebate due to lower volume of materials recycled in the past year, and market conditions. The adjusted rates and further details can be found below.

Adjusted Rate Structure
The new rates beginning August 1, 2013 have an adjusted supplementary rate structure. The new structure includes additional funding for branch and brush collection to ensure sufficient funds are available to pay for future storm clean up costs such as the recent April flood event. In order to help offset these costs, the Village has lowered the toter replacement rate from $1.00 to $0.75 and has also eliminated the Clean Sweep unlimited collection program AFTER a final collection is held in the Spring of 2014. The clean sweep program was eliminated based on continued declining use of the program over the past 10 years, and the critical need for funding related to storm clean up efforts. After the final unlimited clean sweep event is held in April of 2014, residents will continue to be able to dispose of refuse items at the curb in bundles with one refuse sticker each.

Recycling Credit Offered to Residents
As an incentive to continue to recycle, the Village is continuing to provide a monthly CREDIT to each account based on recycling revenues received by the Village in the previous year. Beginning August 2013 through July 2014, this credit will be $0.60. This credit was adjusted from the previous years credit of $2.15 based on reduced recycling material volume and market conditions.

Should you have any additional questions or comments on the solid waste rates, please contact the Village at 630-469-5000 or submit a form on the "Contact Us" webpage. More information is available on the following Refuse and Recycling Guide.

General Refuse and Recycling Collection Information

Weekly refuse/recycling collections occur on Mondays (or Tuesday, if Monday is a holiday) and allows for unlimited amounts of recyclables and one wheeled refuse cart per week without a sticker.

Village ordinance prohibits residents from putting garbage and/or refuse out at the curb before 4:30 p.m. on the day before Monday's refuse collection. To ensure refuse is picked up, it must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on the collection day (6 a.m. if you are in a construction zone). Refuse carts must be removed from the curb within 24 hours after pickup. If your refuse cart was out by 7 a.m. on the collection day and your pickup is missed or you wish to arrange for a special pickup, please contact the refuse hauler, Republic Services (Allied Waste), at 630-469-1036.

Refuse carts are available in 35, 65, and 95 gallon sizes. While your wheeled refuse cart is paid through your monthly Village water bill, any additional refuse containers must be stickered. Resident costs are based on the size of the cart selected.  Rear door collection is also available for an additional monthly charge. Senior citizens enjoy discounted monthly rates for curbside pick-up or rear door service for 35 gallon wheeled carts.

Recycling carts are available in 35 or 65 gallon sizes.  Recycling can be comingled within the cart and should be left at your curbside with your regular refuse.  Recycling is a FREE service, and the Village encourages residents to recycle as much as possible as the Village receives revenues from the sale of recycables.  New this year, the Village will be rebating recycling revenues on a monthly basis to all accounts.  The credit for August 2012 to July 2013 is $2.15.
