Recycling Cart Program

If you would like to request an additional cart or a cart exchange, please contact the Cashier's Office at 630-547-5235.

General Information on Recycling Cart Program:
  • The recycling cart is Village property and should be left at your house if you move;
  • On Mondays, the recycling cart should be placed with its “mouth” facing the street, as indicated by the arrows on the lid.  It is wise to leave space around the recycling cart so that it may be safely placed back after it is emptied by a hydraulic arm;
  • The carts carry a 10-year warranty and the Village should be contacted about defects.  Should the cart be lost or damaged by the homeowner, you will be responsible for the repair/replacement cost;
  • Allied Waste will not collect recycling carts that are overflowing. Please request an additional cart instead. If you have a one-time event in which more recycling is created than usual, you may utilize your old recycling bin.  If you do have more recycling than your 65-gallon cart can handle on a regular basis however, requesting an additional cart is the best manner in which to proceed.  This is because Allied Waste will not allow the use of recycling bins for an indefinite period as a result of the trucks utilized for recycling collection; and
  • Those wishing to exchange cart sizes will be charged a $15 delivery fee.  This is similar to the fee charged for the swap out of refuse carts.

What to Recycle in Carts:
Most items are recycable within the Village's Recycling Collection.  Please see the list below for non-recycable items:

  • Plastic Bags
  • Packing Material/Packing Peanuts
  • Non-Rinsed Containers with Food Residue
  • Crystal
  • Ceramics
  • Light Bulbs
  • Foamed Polystrene (Styrofoam)
  • Glass (except recyclable glass bottles and jars)
All recycling can be comingled. No separation of glass and plastic from paper products is necessary.  Please utilize the single recycling cart being delivered to your home for all of your recycling needs.

Cost:

The Village does not charge residents for the weekly recycling collection.  Recycling collection is a free service to all residents.  In fact, the Village encourages residents to recycle as much as possible for environmental and financial reasons.  The Village receives funds from the sale of recycables, so the more residents recycle, the more funds the Village receives that can be put towards other refuse and recycling programs.

As previously stated, if your family recycles more than the 65-gallon cart will allow, you may request an additional 35-gallon or 65-gallon cart from the Village.  The addition of a second cart will NOT raise your monthly refuse and recycling bill.  However, you will be charged a one-time $15 delivery fee. This is similar to the fee charged for the swap out of refuse carts.
