December 28th Question: Can residents arrange automatic payments for water, sewer and refuse collection?
Residents can arrange automatic payments through the Cashier's office by completing the auto-pay application form,  and returning it along with a voided check. Additionally, residents may also pay their Village utility bills 24 hours a day by credit card (MasterCard, American Express or Discover) over the internet. A convenience fee will be charged by the State of Illinois to use this service. Please click here if you are interested in E-Pay.

 
December 21st Question: How can residents find out more about the Village's snow removal operations?
Located on the Public Works web page on the Village's web site, click on Snow for snow removal, parking and other reminders during snow season. A snow brochure link is also available on the Snow page outlining snow removal procedures, commonly asked questions and important telephone numbers.
 
December 14th Question: Where can residents recycle unwanted medicine?
Unwanted medicine (excluding regulated medicines/controlled substances) can be dropped off at several locations throughout DuPage County. For locations and details for disposing of residentially-generated unused prescriptions and expired over the counter drugs, CLICK HERE.
 
December 7th Question: Are holiday light strands recyclable?
Yes! Several locations have free holiday light recycling, which is an eco-friendly alternative to putting lights in landfills. The closest location is Wheaton's Public Works garage, 821 W. November 30th Question: Does the Village have minimum heating requirements?

Landlords and renters within Glen Ellyn are reminded the Village Code dictates specific heating requirements from October 1 to May 15. Landlords are required to maintain a room temperature of not less that 65 degrees in all habitable spaces within their rental properties between 6:30am and 10:30pm during normal conditions. During other hours of the day, the minimum temperature is 60 degrees.
When the exterior temperature falls below Zero and the heating system is operating at full capacity, a minimum room temperature of 60 degrees is required at all times.

 
November 23th Question: Does the Village rent out Civic Center rooms to groups and organizations?
Yes, the Civic Center is available to a variety of governmental units, community groups and organizations and others connected to the Glen Ellyn community may use the facilities for meetings and recreational purposes. Provided that their activities do not interfere with the affairs of Village government.

November 16th Question: What items cannot be recycled through the Village's recycling program?

November 9th Question: How do I obtain parking permits for commuters and Central Business District employees and merchants?
Parking permits are issued by the Cashier's Office in the Civic Center. Please call the office at 630-547-5235 for more information. Permits are sold on a quarterly or annual basis and there is currently a waiting list.
 
November 2nd Question: How can I locate different organizations that service Glen Ellyn and the surrounding area?
The Village of Glen Ellyn maintains a Service Groups and Organizations Directory that is available on the Village's web site or by CLICKING HERE. This Directory provides numerous ideas for volunteering opportunities and/or assistance.
 
October 26th Question: How can I have my child's safety seat inspected?
The Glen Ellyn Police Department offers residents free child safety seat inspections by appointment. Child safety seat inspections are critical to ensuring the Village's youngest residents are protected when in a motor vehicle. If you are interested in having your child safety seat inspected, please contact the Police Department at 630-469-1187.
 
October 19th Question: Is the Village an early voting site?
The DuPage County Election Commission has established the Glen Ellyn Civic Center as an early voting site. Early voting runs through October 28. Hours for early voting are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:30am - 4pm, Thursday, 8:30am - 7pm and Saturday, 9am - 12pm.
 
October 12th Question: What are the Trick-or-Treat hours for Halloween?

The suggested trick-or-treating hours on Sunday, October 31 are 3pm to 7pm.

The Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce is also hosting trick-or-treating in downtown as part of the Halloween Fest on Saturday, October 30. Trick-or-treating during this event will be 10am to 12pm. For more information on this event, please visit the chamber web site
October 5th Question: Can I have a police officer inspect my house for possible security issues?
The Glen Ellyn Police Department offers a Residential Security Survey Program. The Residential Security Survey Program is an inspection of your home, performed by a specially trained police officer, in an effort to identify areas in which you could improve the physical security of your residence. The survey is offered free to Glen Ellyn residents, by appointment only. For further information or to schedule an appointment, please call Officer Tom Staples at 630-469-1187.
September 28th Question: When will work on Village Streets be completed?
Each project has its own timetable for completion. The Public Works Department Construction Projects web page includes monthly construction updates and a link for the 10 Year Street plan. Any additional questions on street construction may be directed to the Public Works Department at 630-469-6756.
September 21th Question: Does the Village incorporate any environmentally friendly initiatives?
The Village has long been a leader in fostering environmental stewardship and incorporating green principles into the community and municipal workplace. The Village is proud of its environmental efforts, and as such, has taken an inventory of the environmentally friendly activities and programs that demonstrate our commitment to sustainability. September 14th Question: Can residents every rake leaves into the street?
It is a violation of Village ordinance to rake leaves into the street. Leaves clog storm sewers and create dangerous driving conditions. Village street sweeping is also hindered when the streets are filled with leaves. The best methods of leaf disposal are composting and mulching. You can also place leaves in paper yard waste bags or reusable containers with Village yard waste stickers affixed.
September 7th Question: When does Weekly Yard Waste collection end?
Weekly yard waste collection, with yard waste stickers affixed, will run through the end of November. Weekly yard waste pick-up with stickers, will resume in April 2011.
August 31st Question: When does Monthly Brush & Branch pick-up end?
October is the last month for Brush & Branch Collection. The final collection will occur for residents on and north of Hill Avenue on the second Monday of October; for residents south of Hill Avenue on the third Monday of October.
August 24th Question: Does the Village offer Notary Services?
A Notary Public is typically available at the Village's Civic Center offices during regular office hours of 8am-4:30pm. 
Please call 630-469-5000 to ensure a notary is available on the day you visit.
August 17th Question: What is the process for removing trees on private property?
Permits are not required before removal of a tree located entirely on private property. However, when private property trees are removed by a tree service, the removals must be reported to the Village Forester no more than 7 days after the tree has been removed (630-469-6756). Tree contractors must be registered before they can remove or prune trees in the Village. Please see the Public Works WEBPAGE for a list of registered tree contractors.
August 10th Question: Who provides the mosquito spraying in Glen Ellyn?
The Glen Ellyn Mosquito Abatement District has contracted with Clarke Mosquito Control to perform mosquito surveillance and control procedures which include larviciding for culex mosquitoes (a major vector of West Nile Virus) and adulticiding for floodwater (nuisance) mosquitoes. In order to serve the community better, Clarke has established a Mosquito Hotline where residents can call to report standing water or annoying mosquito conditions in your neighborhood. Clarke's hotline number is: 800-942-2555. You can also visit their web site at clarkemosquito.com.  Please note that mosquito abatement trucks were out again spraying last Friday night, August 6.
August 3rd Question: Where can I recycle?
Residents who want to be greener and wish to recycle more items that cannot be deposited in the current weekly residential recycling collection program are encouraged to visit DuPageco.org for the DuPage County Recycling Guide, also available HERE. July 27th Question: When are the Village offices open?
Village offices, located at the Civic Center, 535 Duane Street, are open from 8am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday. These offices include Administration, Finance, Planning & Development and the Cashier's office. The Police Department, also located at the Civic Center, is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Public Works Department, 30 S. Lambert Road, is open 7am-3:30pm, Monday-Friday.
July 20th Question: Do I need to register my business in Glen Ellyn?
Yes. Glen Ellyn requires all business owners to complete a Business Registration form available on Planning and Developments WEBPAGE or by visiting the Planning and Development Department. This form should be completed any time a new business is opened, the name of a business is changed, or when a business changes ownership.

July 6th Question: What do I need to do to hold a block party?
Block Party request forms are available on the Village web site or by clicking HERE. Please make your request at least two weeks prior to the event. If you are interested in a block party wagon, please contact the Park District at 630-858-2462.
