Union Pacific Presentation and West Line Improvement Project:

At the April 26 Village Board Meeting, representatives from Union Pacific (UP) Railroad presented information on upcoming railroad enhancements through the West Line Improvement Project.  The project will provide for new safety features and improvements to the rail schedule that will minimize delays, enhance commuter safety and reduce the impact on the environment.  UP representatives Thomas Zapler, Director of Public Affairs, and David Giandinoto, General Superintendent of Transportation Services, also fielded questions from concerned residents on a variety of topics including increases in train staging and rail congestion.

In addition to UP’s recent presentation, the organization will be providing the Village with routine updates on the West Line Improvement Project and its status in Glen Ellyn.  Most recently, the Village was informed that the first stage of safety improvements will be occurring at the Main Street and Park Boulevard crossings over the next several weeks.  These safety enhancements will include the removal of planters to provide room for platform diversions.  The platform diversions will channel commuter flow away from the tracks and instead direct commuters behind the pedestrian gates.  Once this safety enhancement is in place, new, slightly smaller planters will be reinstalled.

The Village will be keeping residents informed as more details become available on the upcoming rail improvements.  Any residents with additional comments or concerns on the railroad in general or the West Line Improvement Project are encouraged to contact Union Pacific via email at tomzapler@up.com or phone, 1-800-848-8715.
