Tornado Season

To give advance warning that a tornado has been spotted or is heading toward Glen Ellyn, the Village has outdoor severe weather warning sirens positioned strategically throughout the community. The severe weather sirens are activated by Dupage Public Safety Communications (DuComm) if the National Weather Service issues a tornado warning for DuPage County, or if a storm or tornado poses a threat to Glen Ellyn.

Testing

The sirens are tested the first Tuesday of the month at 10 a.m, weather permitting. DuComm does not test the severe weather sirens if the weather is severe or threatening, as this helps to ensure that there will be no confusion as to whether it is a test or a real alert.

How to Respond

When the sirens are activated, residents will hear a 3 to 5 minute steady signal of the sirens. Seek shelter in the most interior room of your home or office. You should avoid outside walls and windows.

An interior bathroom, closet or other room is generally the safest location. If you have access to a radio or television, tune to a local channel to listen for essential emergency information.
