Glen Ellyn Downtown Strategic Plan

In recent years, the downtown has seen an increased number of vacancies. Therefore, in order to ensure the continued success of the downtown, the Village of Glen Ellyn undertook a downtown strategic planning process. The process began in February 2008 when the Village hired consultant Town Builder Studios to oversee the process. Development of the Strategic Plan was guided by a Downtown Advisory Committee (DAC) comprised of volunteer members and representatives from various community organizations, downtown merchants and property owners. The planning process included a number of opportunities for public input, including interviews, merchant surveys, a design studio, charette, town hall meetings, presentations, and paper and online public feedback surveys.

In March 2009, the DAC unanimously recommended approval of the plan to the Village Board. The Board reviewed the plan at several workshops from June to October, receiving additional input and posing questions to Village staff and consultants. The Village Board unanimously approved the Downtown Strategic Plan at its October 26 Village Board meeting.

The Downtown Strategic Plan creates a vision for the future of downtown Glen Ellyn. The plan will be used to guide Village efforts in the downtown for the next 10 to 20 years. The plan lays out steps necessary for the implementation of the plan, some of which are relatively simple and can occur in the short term, and others of which are more complex and costly and will require more evaluation and study before they can be undertaken. Please find below the final strategic plan report.  For additional questions regarding this report, or the overall process, please contact Director Hulseberg at 630-469-5000.
