The Department of Planning and Development administers the provisions of the Zoning Code. The Building Code enforces related regulations in the Village Code. A staff of building, property and fire inspectors investigate complaints, identify violations and monitor corrective actions to achieve code compliance. Code violations may occur due to the way a property is used, occupied, constructed, altered or maintained, or due to accidents or natural disasters. In any case, the property owner is responsible for the conditions on the property. In the event a minor violation is discovered, the property owner is given a reasonable opportunity to make the required corrections to avoid the necessity of stopping the work or issuing a citation.
